Transitions, struggles with relationships or troubles in academic performance. Some of these problems are normal developmental challenges but some children come from hard places and experience trauma, anxiety and depression. Ethical Considerations

In Malaysia, children are defined as anyone below the age of 18. While children can seek out help or advice, when therapy is needed, a parent or guardian must give consent.

Confidentiality is essential in creating a safe space for children to share their troubles.. To be effective a counsellor needs to ensure what is discussed in the sessions is kept private. The only time that a counsellor is ethically bound to break confidentiality is when a child is at risk of harm, or harming others, or when ordered by a court to do so.

A counsellor will  provide feedback to the parent/ guardian about how the counseling is progressing, and what are the areas that the counseling will focus on. The counselor will share helpful information on how a parent/guardian can support the child in their recovery but the counselor will not be reporting to the parent everything a child says or does in session.
