Welcome to HumanKind’s Art Therapy

A safe space to heal and grow

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a mental health service that harnesses the creative process for expressive and therapeutic purposes. It is when Art meets Therapy. It provides a safe space for individuals to use art materials and the art-making process to communicate thoughts and emotions that may be challenging to express verbally. Sometimes, words alone are not enough to capture the depth of our thoughts and emotions. That's where art therapy comes in, guiding individuals to use art materials and processes in a safe space to support their mental health needs. The beauty of art therapy lies in its accessibility—no skills or talents are required. Everyone can use art as a therapeutic outlet.

No Need for Artistic Skills

Art therapy breaks down barriers. You do not need any art-making skills or prior experience. There's no right or wrong way to create. Art therapists guide you in exploring art materials, unlocking your creativity and imagination to find your authentic voice, personal discovery, and meaning.

When words are not enough…

Art therapy recognizes the unique power of art making to let feelings speak without restraint. It's about being present without judgment, allowing individuals to process emotions, heal from painful experiences, and understand themselves on a profound level. Art becomes a visual language, making invisible inner thoughts and experiences visible, aiding in comprehension and sense-making.

Many find it easier to express their thoughts and feelings verbally after creating artwork, making art therapy a gateway to deeper self-understanding.

How does Art Therapy work?

The process of art therapy allows feelings to be expressed without the need for words. Art-making becomes a practice of being present without judgment, aiding in the processing of emotions, healing from painful experiences, and fostering self-understanding. It takes that invisible inner thought or experience and makes it visible so that you can understand and make sense of it.

How does Art Therapy maintain confidentiality?

Art therapists do not interpret your artwork; instead, they support you in discovering your own meaning. All artworks are kept confidential and safely stored, returning to you at the end of sessions.

Does Art Therapy require artistic skills? Is there any age limit?

No artistic skill is needed and no limit to age (suitable for both children and adults). Art therapy is for everyone, regardless of artistic skills or prior experience.

What happens in an Art Therapy session?

In your first session, the Art therapist will discuss your situation and objectives, starting with what feels comfortable to you. Subsequent sessions may involve spontaneous art-making or themed explorations. After creating art, the therapist will explore the images together, followed by a reflection on the insights gained through the art-making process.

What is the fee?

Art Therapy sessions are priced at RM150 per session, with each session lasting 60 minutes. For those seeking a more structured approach, packages are available, such as the Art Therapy (5-sessions) package, which is offered at a discounted rate of MYR 675.00.
