The Best Gift is You

We envision a world where everyone recognizes themselves as valuable, needed and connected.

We believe that kind people exist in every community. Kindness makes the world a better place. We are on a mission to identify, resource, connect and support people who want to be of service.

We deliver evidence based, sustainable solutions that ordinary people of good will can use to make a difference in the area of mental health and emotional well-being. We especially use the arts as our approach because the arts are a powerful tool that crosses language, cultural and social economic barriers..

Community Counseling-01.png

If you feel stuck in your life whether it is with a situation or in a relationship, counseling can help you.

HumanKind's mission is to provide affordable mental health services for the community. We do not charge for counseling services but there is a cost involved for the use of space, utilities, supervision, and administration cost related to running this service.

BuddyBear Helpline

Buddy Bear Poster -13.png

The Buddy Bear project is a response to the urgent need to support children who are experiencing emotional distress due to the Movement Restriction Order imposed on all Malaysian as a result of the Corona Virus Pandemic.

NGOs are reporting an increase in abuse and violence in the homes and children calling for help. The Humankind team of 35 volunteers took 2 weeks to develop a phone service for all children to call for emotional support. We have since expanded to a volunteer team of 60 and continues to support kids daily from 6pm-12am.

The team utilizes Psychological First Aid in supporting children through this crisis. The Buddy Bear line is currently the only dedicated children’s phone service in Malaysia.

OUR PROJECTS

#ExpressiveArts
KitaReka in collaboration with Projek Komuniti Kita

We asked children in the community to draw what home means to them. Every color and elements were reflections of their feelings about home. Using the colors and paints the children were able to express their feelings.

KitaReka x Projek Komuniti Kita is an art wellness programme for thriving communities conducted in PPR Seri Selangor, PPR Kerinchi and PPR Batu Muda

Project Date: February - 10 April 2022.

#TOYProject

Together Old + Young Project

A longer life brings with it opportunities for older people to contribute to their families and communities. and society as a whole. (World Health Organization)

TOY Project is an inter-generational community based initiative where volunteers aged 55 and above facilitate Expressive Art workshops for children through the local primary schools and community centers.

Through the art workshops, children have a safe space to play, express themselves and develop social skills. For the older adult volunteers, they make new friends, learn new skills and engage in a meaningful activity that contributes to the well-being of their community.

#ExpressiveSandworkProject

Worldwide, 10-20% of children and adolescents experience mental disorders. They are the leading cause of disability in young people in all regions.

Untreated, these conditions severely influence children’s development, their educational attainments and their potential to live fulfilling and productive lives.” (World Health Organization)

The Expressive Sandwork Project trains volunteers to provide a group form of Sandplay therapy for children who have suffered trauma such as violence, abuse, or displacement.

The goal is to provide therapeutic care within communities to traumatized children who would otherwise have no access to any form of mental health services so that they can process their feelings and activate their inner creative resources.

#BraveGirlsProject

Girls today are at a startling risk of violence in every space – both online and in the classroom, home and community.

An astonishing 1 in every 20 girls has experienced rape in their lifetimes. Globally, girls aged 15-19 are as likely to justify wife-beating as boys of the same age. Suicide is currently the second leading cause of death among adolescent girls. Each year, 12 million girls are married in childhood, and 4 million are at risk of Female Genital Mutilation. (Unicef)

The Brave Girls Project takes advantage of the developmental window of opportunity for girls aged 6- 11 years. At this stage in life, children are developing autonomy and confidence, and the Brave Girls initiative is designed to reinforce the psychological foundations for confident self-agency.

What our Partners say:

“You have no idea how successful the project has been, the kids have shown a tremendous improvement in attitudes during class and all this has been happening from day one itself. It's amazing...like magic.”

-Dennis Chan, HumanAid

“The attendance has been near perfect, and this is very rare! The children love coming and the parents are very happy with the changes they have seen in their children. We really value your program because we know it’s good for the children.”

— Nur Hassini, Yayasan Chow Kit

“I strongly felt that this activity is a form of painting which empowers victims to find a more courageous and meaningful participation in their lives through the expressive arts. What was so fabulous about the program was taking the inward journey in a safe environment.”
