Family Counseling
When family feels difficult, you don't have to figure it out alone.
Family relationships can be complicated.
Sometimes, communication breaks down. Conflicts keep coming back. A difficult experience affecting one family member begins to affect everyone.
Family counseling offers a safe space to slow down, listen, understand, and work through these challenges together.
-
Family counseling brings family members together with a counselor to explore what is happening within the family and how you can move forward together.
It isn't about finding someone to blame or deciding who is right or wrong.
It's about understanding each other, building connection, and finding healthier ways to relate.

-
Family counseling is a form of counseling that brings family members together with a counselor to work through challenges affecting their relationships and the family as a whole.
It provides a safe space to communicate openly, better understand one another, and explore healthier ways of relating.
-
Family counseling can involve different combinations of family members depending on what you are hoping to work on. This may include parents and children, siblings, couples within a family, or other family members.
Your counselor can help determine who would be most appropriate to include in the sessions.
-
Not necessarily. While family counseling often involves multiple family members, it is not always necessary for everyone to attend every session.
The people involved may depend on the concerns you're experiencing and what would be most helpful for your family.
-
You can bring a wide range of concerns to family counseling, including communication difficulties, recurring conflict, misunderstandings, changes within the family, strained relationships, or challenges affecting one or more family members.
You don't need to know exactly what to talk about before your first session. Your counselor can help you explore where to begin.
-
That's okay. Family counseling can involve difficult conversations, and emotions may come up.
Your counselor's role is to help create a safe and respectful space where everyone has an opportunity to be heard. They can also help your family slow down and work through difficult conversations in a more constructive way.
-
Not at all.
You don't have to wait until your family is in crisis before seeking support. Family counseling can also be helpful when you want to improve communication, strengthen relationships, or better support one another through a period of change.
-
There is no fixed number of sessions that works for every family.
The number and frequency of sessions will depend on your family's needs, the concerns you're working through, and your progress over time. Your counselor can discuss this with you as you begin.
-
Depending on the counselor and your family's needs, counseling may be available online or in person.
Our team can help you explore the available options when you enquire.
-
It is common for family members to have different feelings about counseling.
If someone isn't ready to participate, you can still reach out to our team or begin counseling with the family members who are willing to attend. Your counselor can help you consider the best way forward.
-
Counseling sessions are generally confidential, with some limits to confidentiality that your counselor will explain to you at the beginning of the counseling process.
When multiple family members attend, your counselor will also discuss how confidentiality works within family counseling so that everyone understands the boundaries from the start.
